A bill for an act
relating to education; increasing pupil unit count for certain growing school
districts.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin GROWING SCHOOL DISTRICT; PUPIL UNIT COUNT.

new text begin (a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 126C.05, subdivision 1, for fiscal
years 2008 and 2009, a school district with more than 12,000 pupils in average daily
membership and an annual growth in average daily membership of more than 2.5 percent
may count certain pupil units according to this section.

new text begin (b) A kindergarten pupil who is not included in Minnesota Statutes, section 126C.05,
subdivision 1, paragraph (c), is counted as .625 of a pupil unit.

new text begin (c) A pupil who is in any of grades 1 to 3 is counted as 1.25 pupil units.

new text begin (d) A pupil who is in any of grades 4 to 6 is counted as 1.175 pupil units.
