  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the city of Waite Park; authorizing the 
  1.3             city to impose a local sales tax. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [WAITE PARK; LOCAL SALES TAX AUTHORIZED.] 
  1.6      Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 477A.016, or 
  1.7   any other provision of law, ordinance, or charter, the city of 
  1.8   Waite Park may impose a sales and use tax of one-half of one 
  1.9   percent pursuant to approval of the city voters at an election 
  1.10  held in November 2003. 
  1.11     Revenues from the tax imposed under this section must be 
  1.12  used for the purposes listed in Laws 2002, chapter 377, article 
  1.13  11, section 2, subdivision 2, and approved by the voters in the 
  1.14  November 2003 referendum.  The amount of revenues collected from 
  1.15  this tax which may be spent for airport costs under Laws 2002, 
  1.16  chapter 377, article 11, section 2, subdivision 2, paragraph 
  1.17  (a), is limited to $25,000 for each quarter in which the tax is 
  1.18  imposed with the remainder returned to the city to be spent on 
  1.19  the other allowed uses. 
  1.20     The tax under this section shall be imposed beginning July 
  1.21  1, 2004, and shall expire at the same time as the taxes imposed 
  1.22  under Laws 2002, chapter 377, article 11, section 2. 
  1.23     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective the day 
  1.24  following final enactment, upon compliance of the governing body 
  2.1   of the city of Waite Park with Minnesota Statutes, section 
  2.2   645.021, subdivision 3.
