  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to state lands; authorizing conveyance of 
  1.3             surplus state land in Redwood County. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [CONVEYANCE OF SURPLUS STATE LAND; REDWOOD 
  1.6   COUNTY.] 
  1.7      (a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, sections 16A.695, 
  1.8   16C.23, 94.09 to 94.16, or other law to the contrary, the 
  1.9   commissioner of administration and the Minnesota Historical 
  1.10  Society may convey to the Lower Sioux Indian community in 
  1.11  Redwood County, for no consideration and free of any 
  1.12  restrictions, the surplus land described in paragraph (d). 
  1.13     (b) For the sole purposes of this act, the Lower Sioux 
  1.14  Indian community is a public agency and there is a state need to 
  1.15  convey the property described in paragraph (d) to be used by the 
  1.16  community for essential governmental purposes, including the 
  1.17  operation of programs for the interpretation of Minnesota 
  1.18  history.  
  1.19     (c) The conveyance must be in a form approved by the 
  1.20  attorney general.  The attorney general may make necessary 
  1.21  changes in the legal description of paragraph (d) to correct 
  1.22  errors and ensure accuracy.  
  1.23     (d) The land to be conveyed is located in Redwood County, 
  1.24  consists of approximately 242 acres, and is described as: 
  2.1      (1) land owned by the Minnesota Historical Society: 
  2.2      (i) Government Lots 5 and 6, in Section 5, Township 112 
  2.3   North, Range 34 West; 
  2.4      (ii) the Northwest Quarter of the Northwest Quarter of 
  2.5   Section 8, Township 112 North, Range 34 West; and 
  2.6      (iii) all that part of the East Half of the Northwest 
  2.7   Quarter of Section 8, Township 112 North, Range 34 West, lying 
  2.8   north of Redwood County Highway No. 2; and 
  2.9      (2) land owned by the state of Minnesota: 
  2.10     (i) Government Lots 2 and 3 of Section 8, Township 112 
  2.11  North, Range 34 West, EXCEPTING THEREFROM all that part of 
  2.12  Government Lot 2 of said Section 8 described as follows: 
  2.13  Beginning at a point on the south line of said Government Lot 2 
  2.14  a distance of 350.00 feet easterly of the southwest corner of 
  2.15  said Government Lot 2; thence along the south line of said 
  2.16  Government Lot 2 on an assumed bearing of North 89 degrees 58 
  2.17  minutes East for 422.40 feet; thence North 6 degrees 58 seconds 
  2.18  East for 115.00 feet; thence South 78 degrees 18 minutes 34 
  2.19  seconds West for 451.09 feet to the point of beginning; 
  2.20     (ii) the North 8 acres of the Southeast Quarter of the 
  2.21  Northeast Quarter of Section 8, Township 112 North, Range 34 
  2.22  West; 
  2.23     (iii) the North 6.76 acres of Government Lot 7 in Section 
  2.24  9, Township 112 North, Range 34 West; 
  2.25     (iv) all that part of the Northeast Quarter of the 
  2.26  Northwest Quarter of Section 8, Township 112 North, Range 34 
  2.27  West, lying south of Redwood County Highway No. 2; and 
  2.28     (v) all that part of the Southwest Quarter of the Northeast 
  2.29  Quarter of Section 8, Township 112 North, Range 34 West, 
  2.30  described as follows:  Beginning at the northwest corner of the 
  2.31  Southwest Quarter of the Northeast Quarter of said Section 8; 
  2.32  thence along the north line of the Southwest Quarter of the 
  2.33  Northeast Quarter of said Section 8 on an assumed bearing of 
  2.34  North 89 degrees 58 minutes East for 270.90 feet; thence South 
  2.35  10 degrees 40 minutes 37 seconds West for 158.80 feet to the 
  2.36  northerly right-of-way of County Road 2; thence North 62 degrees 
  3.1   18 minutes 09 seconds West along the northerly right-of-way line 
  3.2   of County Road 2 for 272.73 feet to the north quarter line of 
  3.3   said Section 8; thence North 29.13 feet to the point of 
  3.4   beginning. 
  3.5      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  3.6      Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
