1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to the state council on Asian-Pacific 1.3 Minnesotans; adding a member to represent the 1.4 Taiwanese-American community; amending Minnesota 1.5 Statutes 1994, section 3.9226, subdivision 1. 1.6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.7 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 3.9226, 1.8 subdivision 1, is amended to read: 1.9 Subdivision 1. [CREATION.] The state council on 1.10 Asian-Pacific Minnesotans consists of 15 members. Eleven 1.11 members are appointed by the governor and must be broadly 1.12 representative of the Asian-Pacific community of the state. The 1.13 governor shall appoint two additional members in 1992, one each 1.14 representing the communities of people from Malaysia and Sri 1.15 Lanka,andsix more additional members in 1993, one each 1.16 representing the communities of people from Afghanistan, 1.17 Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, Singapore, and Tibet, and one 1.18 additional member in 1996 representing the community of people 1.19 from Taiwan, so that after19931996 the council consists of231.20 24 members with1920 appointed by the governor. Terms, 1.21 compensation, removal, and filling of vacancies for appointed 1.22 members are as provided in section 15.059. Two members of the 1.23 house of representatives appointed under the rules of the house 1.24 of representatives and two members of the senate appointed under 1.25 the rules of the senate shall serve as nonvoting members of the 2.1 council. The council shall annually elect from its membership a 2.2 chair and other officers it deems necessary. 2.3 The council shall adopt rules to implement designation of 2.4 Asian-Pacific ethnic communities to be represented with seats on 2.5 the council.
