  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to agriculture; appropriating money for 
  1.3             cost-share payments to organic farmers. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.6      $50,000 in fiscal year 2002 and $50,000 in fiscal year 2003 
  1.7   are appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of 
  1.8   agriculture for annual cost-share payments to resident farmers 
  1.9   for the costs of organic certification.  The annual cost-share 
  1.10  payments per farmer must be two-thirds of the cost of the 
  1.11  certification or $200, whichever is less.  A certified farmer is 
  1.12  eligible to receive annual certification cost-share payments for 
  1.13  up to five years.  $15,000 each year is for organic market and 
  1.14  program development.  This appropriation is available until 
  1.15  expended.
