  1.4             certain actions; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 549. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [549.255] [ATTORNEY FEES AWARDS.] 
  1.8      When a statute provides for the award of attorney fees to a 
  1.9   party that has recovered money damages, the court, in setting 
  1.10  the amount of attorney fees, may take into consideration the 
  1.11  reasonableness of the attorney fees sought to the amount of 
  1.12  damages awarded to the party. 
  1.13     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective August 1, 2004, 
  1.14  and applies to actions commenced on or after that date.
