  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to agriculture; providing a grant for a 
  1.3             feasibility study on the use of agricultural straw and 
  1.4             native prairie grasses in the production of wood pulp; 
  1.5             appropriating money. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.8      $250,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.9   commissioner of agriculture for a grant to the University of 
  1.10  Minnesota, department of wood and paper science, to investigate 
  1.11  the economic, environmental, and technical feasibility of using 
  1.12  agricultural straw and native prairie grasses in the production 
  1.13  of wood pulp substitutes for commercial pulp and paper 
  1.14  production.  The faculty from the department of wood and paper 
  1.15  science shall create an advisory committee comprised of 
  1.16  representatives from agricultural organizations, pulp and paper 
  1.17  manufacturers, the agricultural utilization research institute, 
  1.18  and environmental groups.  This appropriation is available until 
  1.19  June 30, 1999.
