  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to courts; providing a state match for a 
  1.3             federal grant received by a nonprofit organization for 
  1.4             the acquisition and use of interactive multimedia 
  1.5             equipment for courtroom presentations in complex 
  1.6             homicide and child fatality cases; appropriating money.
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.9      $....... is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.10  commissioner of public safety for the fiscal year ending June 
  1.11  30, 1998.  The commissioner shall transfer the money to a 
  1.12  nonprofit organization for use as a state match if the 
  1.13  organization receives federal funding to: 
  1.14     (1) acquire interactive multimedia equipment for courtroom 
  1.15  presentations to aid in the prosecution of complex homicide and 
  1.16  child fatality cases; and 
  1.17     (2) retain a forensic pathologist skilled in interactive 
  1.18  multimedia courtroom presentations to serve for one year as a 
  1.19  consultant to prosecutors statewide.
