A bill for an act
relating to higher education; providing a grant to a higher education institution
for a summer scientific research program for students; appropriating money.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin MINNESOTA OFFICE OF HIGHER EDUCATION; SCIENCE
RESEARCH PROGRAM GRANT.

new text begin $...... each year for fiscal years 2010 and 2011 is appropriated from the general
fund to the Minnesota Office of Higher Education for a grant to Concordia University
Science Research Institute. The grant is to develop a science, technology, engineering,
and mathematics research program in which high school students from underrepresented
groups participate in mentored scientific research and college readiness programming.
The science, technology, engineering, and mathematics research program must be
delivered in conjunction with other local colleges. The grant may be used to provide
scholarship assistance to encourage students from underrepresented groups to participate.
The institution must report to the Minnesota Office of Higher Education on the science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics program according to the timelines established
and with the information requested by the office.
