  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to transportation; establishing multimodal 
  1.3             transportation fund and dedicating portion of sales 
  1.4             tax collected in metropolitan area to the fund; 
  1.5             appropriating money; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.6             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 160. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [160.35] [MULTIMODAL TRANSPORTATION FUND.] 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [FUND CREATED.] A multimodal transportation 
  1.10  fund is created in the state treasury.  The fund consists of all 
  1.11  money appropriated or credited to the fund by law. 
  1.12     Subd. 2.  [EXPENDITURES FROM FUND.] Money in the multimodal 
  1.13  transportation fund may be expended by appropriation for costs 
  1.14  related to any transportation purpose in this state, including, 
  1.15  but not limited to: 
  1.16     (1) constructing, improving, and maintaining public 
  1.17  highways; 
  1.18     (2) providing operating and capital assistance to transit; 
  1.19     (3) providing operating and capital assistance to rail, 
  1.20  waterway, and air transportation systems; and 
  1.21     (4) regulating motor carriers. 
  1.22     Sec. 2.  [TRANSFER.] 
  1.23     An amount equal to the amount of revenue generated by 
  1.24  one-quarter of one cent of the tax, as certified by the 
  1.25  commissioner of revenue using the most recent data available, 
  1.26  imposed under chapter 297A on gross receipts from retail sales 
  2.1   within the metropolitan area as defined in section 473.121, 
  2.2   subdivision 2, is annually appropriated from the general fund to 
  2.3   the commissioner of finance for transfer to the multimodal 
  2.4   transportation fund.
