  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to state government; permitting state 
  1.3             appointing authorities to grant state employees paid 
  1.4             time off for volunteer firefighting duties; proposing 
  1.5             coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 43A. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [43A.186] [VOLUNTEER FIRE LEAVE.] 
  1.8      An appointing authority may grant a state employee paid 
  1.9   leave, not to exceed 100 hours each year, to perform services as 
  1.10  a volunteer firefighter.  Leave under this section does not 
  1.11  affect an employee's vacation leave, pension, compensatory time, 
  1.12  sick leave, earned overtime accumulation, or seniority.  The 
  1.13  state is not liable for workers' compensation claims arising 
  1.14  while a state employee is on leave under this section.
