A bill for an act
relating to transportation; highways; requiring certain programming for
expansion along a segment of marked Interstate Highway 35W.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin For purposes of this section, the following terms have
the meanings given:

new text begin (1) "commissioner" means the commissioner of transportation; and
new text end

new text begin (2) "Interstate Highway 35W project" means construction or reconstruction of
marked Interstate Highway 35W with an additional general purpose lane of travel in each
direction, from the interchange at Anoka County State-Aid Highway 23 (Lake Drive) in
the city of Lino Lakes to the interchange at marked Interstate Highway 35.

new text begin The commissioner shall include the Interstate
Highway 35W project in the next regular update to the statewide transportation
improvement program. The Interstate Highway 35W project must remain in the statewide
transportation improvement program until it is completed, and it may not be delayed from
the initial date of scheduled commencement unless the commissioner (1) identifies special
unforeseen circumstances; and (2) submits a notification, including specific reasons for
the delay, to the chairs and ranking minority members of the legislative committees with
jurisdiction over transportation policy and finance.
