  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to Benton county; permitting the combining of 
  1.3             the offices of auditor and treasurer and appointment 
  1.4             to the combined office and to the offices of recorder 
  1.5             and coroner. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [AUDITOR AND TREASURER MAY BE COMBINED.] 
  1.8      Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 382.01, upon 
  1.9   adoption of a resolution by the Benton county board of 
  1.10  commissioners, the offices of county auditor and county 
  1.11  treasurer may be combined. 
  1.12     Sec. 2.  [ELECTIVE OFFICES MAY BE MADE APPOINTIVE.] 
  1.13     Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 382.01, upon 
  1.14  adoption of a resolution by the Benton county board of 
  1.15  commissioners, the office of auditor-treasurer, if combined 
  1.16  under section 1, and the offices of county recorder and county 
  1.17  coroner are not elective but must be filled by appointment by 
  1.18  the county board as provided in the resolution. 
  1.19     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.20     Sections 1 and 2 are effective, without local approval, 
  1.21  July 1, 1997.
