  1.2             relating to education; authorizing a grant to 
  1.3             independent school district No. 2534, Bird 
  1.4             Island-Olivia-Lake Lillian; appropriating money. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [TECHNOLOGY TRAINING SITE; BIRD 
  1.7   ISLAND-OLIVIA-LAKE LILLIAN.] 
  1.8      $150,000 in fiscal year 2000 and $140,000 in fiscal year 
  1.9   2001 are appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner 
  1.10  of children, families, and learning for a grant to independent 
  1.11  school district No. 2534, Bird Island-Olivia-Lake Lillian, for 
  1.12  the development of a pilot technology training site for students 
  1.13  in grades 11 and 12 and to also serve as a site for an 
  1.14  internship program for Ridgewater College students.  High school 
  1.15  students in the information technology class will be offered 
  1.16  college credit in the district's "College in School" program in 
  1.17  cooperation with Southwest State University.  These 
  1.18  appropriations must be used for personnel, equipment, training, 
  1.19  monitoring, reporting, and payment of college tuition for high 
  1.20  school students.  Any balance in the first year does not cancel 
  1.21  but is available in the second year.
