  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; authorizing the 
  1.3             commissioner of corrections to establish a 
  1.4             correctional facility at Ah Gwah Ching; proposing 
  1.5             coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 243. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [243.95] [THE MINNESOTA CORRECTIONAL 
  1.8   FACILITY-AH GWAH CHING.] 
  1.9      The Minnesota correctional facility-Ah Gwah Ching is 
  1.10  established at Ah Gwah Ching, Minnesota, in which may be placed 
  1.11  persons committed to the commissioner of corrections by the 
  1.12  courts of this state who, in the opinion of the commissioner, 
  1.13  may benefit from the programs available at the facility.  The 
  1.14  general control and management of the facility shall be under 
  1.15  the commissioner of corrections. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [CORRECTIONAL FACILITY AUTHORIZED.] 
  1.17     The commissioner of corrections shall establish a minimum 
  1.18  security adult correctional facility for geriatric and medical 
  1.19  care at Ah Gwah Ching.  The commissioner is authorized to enter 
  1.20  into negotiations and contracts with the department of human 
  1.21  services to establish the facility within available 
  1.22  appropriations.  The commissioner shall ensure that the facility 
  1.23  is available for the placement of persons committed to the 
  1.24  commissioner by December 31, 1995.
