A bill for an act
relating to game and fish; providing for adjustments
to hunting and fishing license fees; proposing coding
for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 97A.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [97A.476] INDEXING HUNTING AND FISHING LICENSE
FEES.

new text begin (a) By July 1, 2005, and before the start of each biennium
thereafter, the commissioner of natural resources shall adjust
each hunting and fishing license fee listed in section 97A.475
by an amount determined by multiplying the listed fee by the
percentage change in the appropriate index during the preceding
two-year period and rounding the result up or down to the
nearest whole dollar.

new text begin (b) For purposes of this section, the appropriate index is
the Consumer Price Index for all household goods and services
for the Midwest region, as published periodically by the United
States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.

new text begin (c) When calculating the two-year percentage change of the
appropriate index, the commissioner must use the latest yearly
figures for the index that have been published by the federal
bureau at the time the calculation is performed.
