  1.1                             A resolution 
  1.2             memorializing Congress to recognize Earth Day as a 
  1.3             national day of environmental service and education 
  1.4             and establishing Earth Day as a state day of 
  1.5             environmental service and education. 
  1.6      
  1.7      WHEREAS, protection of the environment we live in is of 
  1.8   vital importance to the people of Minnesota and the United 
  1.9   States; and 
  1.10     WHEREAS, each person has a right to clean and healthful air 
  1.11  and water, and wise public management of our natural resources, 
  1.12  which may not be infringed upon by other persons; and 
  1.13     WHEREAS, Earth Day has become universally recognized as the 
  1.14  state and national day of environmental action, serving as a 
  1.15  renewal to a pledge of environmental commitment, and a public 
  1.16  demonstration of the people's common voice for the earth; and 
  1.17     WHEREAS, Minnesota has demonstrated and acknowledged its 
  1.18  commitment to the environment by the enactment of many strong 
  1.19  environmental laws since the original Earth Day; NOW, THEREFORE, 
  1.20     BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota 
  1.21  that it urges the United States Congress to act to establish 
  1.22  Earth Day, April 22, as a national day of environmental service 
  1.23  and education and that Earth Day, April 22, is established as a 
  1.24  state day of environmental service and education; 
  1.25     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State of 
  2.1   Minnesota transmit enrolled copies of this memorial to the 
  2.2   President of the United States, the President and Secretary of 
  2.3   the United States Senate, the Speaker and Clerk of the United 
  2.4   States House of Representatives, and to Minnesota's Senators and 
  2.5   Representatives in Congress.
