  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to highways; requiring the commissioner of 
  1.3             transportation to construct the Wakota bridge-trunk 
  1.4             highway 61 project in accordance with a specified 
  1.5             schedule. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [WAKOTA BRIDGE-TRUNK HIGHWAY 61 PROJECT.] 
  1.8      The commissioner of transportation shall schedule 
  1.9   construction of the Wakota bridge-trunk highway 61 project in 
  1.10  and near the city of Newport according to the following schedule:
  1.11     (1) The commissioner shall begin construction of the first 
  1.12  phase of the project, involving new river bridge construction 
  1.13  and marked trunk highway no. 61 Newport access, not later than 
  1.14  April 1, 1998. 
  1.15     (2) The commissioner shall begin construction of the second 
  1.16  phase of the project, involving the interchange between marked 
  1.17  interstate highway no. 494 and trunk highway no. 61 and related 
  1.18  approaches, not later than April 1, 2000. 
  1.19     (3) The commissioner shall begin construction of the third 
  1.20  phase of the project, involving redecking and refurbishing the 
  1.21  existing river bridge and completion of remaining components of 
  1.22  the project, not later than April 1, 2002.
