A bill for an act
relating to higher education; providing representation requirements for the Minnesota
State Colleges and Universities search advisory committees; amending Minnesota
Statutes 2016, section 136F.40, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 136F.40, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

new text begin Search advisory committees. new text end

new text begin If a search advisory committee contains a
student or member of a bargaining unit, the chancellor must select that individual from the
nominations made by the student association or bargaining unit. The student association or
bargaining unit should consider the need for balance and diversity when making nominations.
The chancellor or chancellor's designee must interview each nominee to understand how
that individual would help provide balance to the advisory committee. The chancellor is
prohibited from requesting additional nominations from a student association or bargaining
unit.
