  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to highways; requiring the commissioner of 
  1.3             transportation to take appropriate action to 
  1.4             substantially increase pedestrian safety at an 
  1.5             intersection in North Oaks. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION; TRAFFIC SAFETY 
  1.8   PROJECT IN NORTH OAKS.] 
  1.9      The commissioner of transportation shall, from funds 
  1.10  appropriated to the commissioner for state road construction for 
  1.11  fiscal year 1998, take appropriate action to substantially 
  1.12  increase pedestrian safety at the intersection of marked trunk 
  1.13  highway No. 49 in North Oaks at the entrance to Chippewa middle 
  1.14  school.  The actions required under this section may include 
  1.15  installation of a traffic signal, construction of a pedestrian 
  1.16  overpass, or other action the commissioner determines will 
  1.17  comply with this section.
