A bill for an act
relating to natural resources; requiring exclusionary fencing to prevent chronic
wasting disease; amending Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 35.156, by adding a
subdivision.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 35.156, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

When a wild deer is found that tests positive for chronic wasting
disease, the commissioner of natural resources must establish exclusionary fencing in a
100-yard radius around the location where the wild deer was found. The fencing must be
high tensile and at least 96 inches in height. The fencing must be installed within 180 days
of finding the wild deer and must be maintained for five years. The commissioner must also
place biohazard signs at the location and maintain the signs for five years.
