  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to attorneys-at-law; establishing a surcharge 
  1.3             on attorney license fees to be used for the public 
  1.4             defender system; appropriating money; proposing coding 
  1.5             for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 481. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [481.011] [SURCHARGE.] 
  1.8      (a) The supreme court is requested to impose an annual 
  1.9   surcharge of $200 to be added to the fee set by the supreme 
  1.10  court under section 481.01 for attorney license renewals.  Money 
  1.11  collected under the surcharge must be paid into the fund 
  1.12  established by section 481.01 and is appropriated annually to 
  1.13  the supreme court for the support of the public defender system 
  1.14  established by chapter 611. 
  1.15     (b) This section expires on June 30, 2007.
