  1.2             relating to education; providing for summer food 
  1.3             service replacement aid; providing for school 
  1.4             breakfast outreach programs; appropriating money; 
  1.5             proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.6             chapter 124. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [124.6475] [SUMMER FOOD SERVICE REPLACEMENT 
  1.9   AID.] 
  1.10     States funds are available to compensate 
  1.11  department-approved summer food program sponsors for reduced 
  1.12  federal operating reimbursement rates under Public Law Number 
  1.13  104-193, the federal summer food service program.  A sponsor is 
  1.14  eligible for summer food service replacement aid equal to the 
  1.15  sum of the following amounts: 
  1.16     (1) for breakfast service, subtract the current year 
  1.17  maximum reimbursement rate from the 1996 maximum reimbursement 
  1.18  rate and multiply the result by the number of breakfasts the 
  1.19  district served during the current school year; 
  1.20     (2) for lunch or supper service, subtract the current year 
  1.21  maximum reimbursement rate from the 1996 maximum reimbursement 
  1.22  rate and multiply the result by the number of lunches and 
  1.23  suppers the district served during the current school year; and 
  1.24     (3) for supplement service, subtract the current year 
  1.25  maximum reimbursement rate from the 1996 maximum reimbursement 
  1.26  rate and multiply the result by the number of supplement meals 
  2.1   the district served during the current school year. 
  2.2      Sec. 2.  [SCHOOL BREAKFAST AND SUMMER FOOD SERVICE AID 
  2.3   APPROPRIATION.] 
  2.4      Subdivision 1.  [COMMISSIONER OF CHILDREN, FAMILIES, AND 
  2.5   LEARNING.] The sums indicated in this section are appropriated 
  2.6   from the general fund to the commissioner of children, families, 
  2.7   and learning for the fiscal years designated. 
  2.8      Subd. 2.  [SCHOOL BREAKFAST OUTREACH.] To initiate school 
  2.9   breakfast programs under Minnesota Statutes, section 124.6469, 
  2.10  at school sites not currently providing a school breakfast 
  2.11  program or at schools that initiated a school breakfast program 
  2.12  during the 1996-1997 school year: 
  2.13       $15,000     .......     1998

  2.15     Subd. 3.  [SUMMER FOOD SERVICE REPLACEMENT AID.] For summer 
  2.16  food service replacement aid under Minnesota Statutes, section 
  2.17  124.6475:

  2.20     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.21     Section 1 is effective for the 1997-1998 school year and 
  2.22  thereafter.
