  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to highways; requiring commissioner of 
  1.3             transportation to construct pedestrian-bicycle 
  1.4             overpass on marked U.S. highway No. 169 in the city of 
  1.5             Elk River. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [U.S. HIGHWAY 169 OVERPASS.] 
  1.8      As part of the commissioner's trunk highway work program 
  1.9   for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1999, the commissioner of 
  1.10  transportation shall construct an overpass suitable for 
  1.11  pedestrians and bicycles over marked U.S. highway No. 169 in the 
  1.12  city of Elk River.  The overpass must be located over marked 
  1.13  U.S. highway No. 169 beginning on the west side of the highway 
  1.14  north of School Street and just north of the water tower and 
  1.15  ending on the east side of the highway just south of property 
  1.16  owned by the Minnesota department of transportation.  The 
  1.17  commissioner shall apportion the cost of the overpass between 
  1.18  the department of transportation and the department of natural 
  1.19  resources.  The commissioner shall construct the bridge 
  1.20  according to the design of the commissioner of natural 
  1.21  resources.  The commissioner of transportation shall take all 
  1.22  steps necessary to secure federal funding for a portion of the 
  1.23  costs of the overpass.
