  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to economic development; appropriating money 
  1.3             for a study of the economic impact of certain 
  1.4             improvement projects on Newport. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.7      (a) $250,000 in fiscal year 1998 is appropriated from the 
  1.8   general fund to the commissioner of trade and economic 
  1.9   development for a demonstration project grant to the city of 
  1.10  Newport for the city to conduct its own study of the economic 
  1.11  impact on the city resulting from regional infrastructure 
  1.12  improvement projects.  The city may retain consultants and enter 
  1.13  into contracts it considers desirable to conduct the study. 
  1.14     (b) The elements of the study must include an alternate 
  1.15  economic use study, a fiscal impact study, an infrastructure 
  1.16  impact study, and a traffic impact study.
