  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime; providing that certain proposed 
  1.3             sentencing guidelines modifications regarding 
  1.4             increases in durations at severity levels I through VI 
  1.5             shall not take effect; amending Laws 1996, chapter 
  1.6             408, article 3, section 39. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Laws 1996, chapter 408, article 3, section 39, 
  1.9   is amended to read: 
  1.10     Sec. 39.  [SENTENCING GUIDELINES MODIFICATIONS.] 
  1.11     Pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, section 244.09, the 
  1.12  proposed modifications to the sentencing guidelines regarding 
  1.13  the adjustment of increases in durations across criminal history 
  1.14  at severity levels I through VI contained on page 11 of the 
  1.15  January 1996, Minnesota sentencing guidelines commission's 
  1.16  report to the legislature, shall not take effect until August 1, 
  1.17  1997. 
  1.18     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.19     Section 1 is effective the day after final enactment.
