  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to metropolitan government; providing a sales 
  1.3             tax exemption; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, 
  1.4             section 297A.25, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 297A.25, is 
  1.7   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 62.  [REGIONWIDE PUBLIC SAFETY RADIO COMMUNICATION 
  1.9   SYSTEM; PRODUCTS AND SERVICES.] The gross receipts from the sale 
  1.10  of products and services including end user equipment used for 
  1.11  construction, ownership, operation, maintenance, and enhancement 
  1.12  of the backbone system of the regionwide public safety radio 
  1.13  communication system established under sections 473.891 to 
  1.14  473.905, are exempt.  For purposes of this subdivision, backbone 
  1.15  system is defined in section 473.891, subdivision 9. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [APPLICATION.] 
  1.17     Section 1 applies in the counties of Anoka, Carver, Dakota, 
  1.18  Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington. 
  1.19     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.20     Section 1 is effective for sales made after July 31, 1997, 
  1.21  and before August 1, 2003.
