  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to Hassan township; authorizing an economic 
  1.3             development authority. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [HASSAN TOWNSHIP; ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT 
  1.6   AUTHORITY; ESTABLISHMENT AND POWERS.] 
  1.7      Subdivision 1.  [ESTABLISHMENT.] The board of township 
  1.8   supervisors of Hassan township may establish an economic 
  1.9   development authority in the manner provided in Minnesota 
  1.10  Statutes, sections 469.090 to 469.1081, and may impose limits on 
  1.11  the authority enumerated in Minnesota Statutes, section 
  1.12  469.092.  The economic development authority has all of the 
  1.13  powers and duties granted to or imposed upon economic 
  1.14  development authorities under Minnesota Statutes, sections 
  1.15  469.090 to 469.1081.  The township economic development 
  1.16  authority may create and define the boundaries of economic 
  1.17  development districts at any place or places within the 
  1.18  township, provided that a project as recommended by the township 
  1.19  authority that is to be located within the corporate limits of a 
  1.20  city may not be commenced without the approval of the governing 
  1.21  body of the city.  Minnesota Statutes, section 469.174, 
  1.22  subdivision 10, and the contiguity requirement specified under 
  1.23  Minnesota Statutes, section 469.101, subdivision 1, do not apply 
  1.24  to limit the areas that may be designated as township economic 
  2.1   development districts. 
  2.2      Subd. 2.  [POWERS.] If an economic development authority is 
  2.3   established as provided in subdivision 1, the township may 
  2.4   exercise all of the powers relating to an economic development 
  2.5   authority granted to a city under Minnesota Statutes, sections 
  2.6   469.090 to 469.1081, or other law, including the power to levy a 
  2.7   tax to support the activities of the authority. 
  2.8      Sec. 2.  [LOCAL APPROVAL.] 
  2.9      Section 1 is effective the day after the town board of 
  2.10  supervisors of Hassan township and its chief clerical officer 
  2.11  timely complete their compliance with Minnesota Statutes, 
  2.12  section 645.021, subdivisions 2 and 3.
