  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to motor vehicles; changing notice period 
  1.3             relating to impounded vehicles in custody; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 168B.06, subdivision 
  1.5             1. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 168B.06, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [CONTENTS; NOTICE GIVEN WITHIN TEN THREE 
  1.10  DAYS.] When an impounded vehicle is taken into custody, the unit 
  1.11  of government or impound lot operator taking it into custody 
  1.12  shall give notice of the taking within ten three days.  The 
  1.13  notice shall (a) set forth the date and place of the taking, the 
  1.14  year, make, model and serial number of the impounded motor 
  1.15  vehicle if such information can be reasonably obtained and the 
  1.16  place where the vehicle is being held, (b) inform the owner and 
  1.17  any lienholders of their right to reclaim the vehicle under 
  1.18  section 168B.07, and (c) state that failure of the owner or 
  1.19  lienholders to exercise their right to reclaim the vehicle and 
  1.20  contents within the appropriate time allowed under section 
  1.21  168B.051, subdivision 1 or 2, shall be deemed a waiver by them 
  1.22  of all right, title, and interest in the vehicle and contents 
  1.23  and a consent to the transfer of title to and disposal or sale 
  1.24  of the vehicle and contents pursuant to section 168B.08.
