  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to human services; appropriating money to 
  1.3             assist deaf-blind persons. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATIONS.] 
  1.6      $600,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.7   commissioner of human services for the biennium ending June 30, 
  1.8   1999, for a grant to DeafBlind Services Minnesota, Inc., for 
  1.9   purposes of providing services to deaf-blind children and their 
  1.10  families.  The services include providing intervenors to assist 
  1.11  deaf-blind children in participating in their community and 
  1.12  family education specialists to teach siblings and parents 
  1.13  skills to support the deaf-blind child in the family. 
  1.14     $1,000,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.15  commissioner of human services for the biennium ending June 30, 
  1.16  1999, for a grant to DeafBlind Services Minnesota, Inc. and 
  1.17  Duluth Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc., for purposes of providing 
  1.18  assistance to deaf-blind persons who are working toward 
  1.19  establishing and maintaining independence.
