A bill for an act
relating to transportation; requiring restoration, reopening, and maintenance of
Stillwater Boomsite rest area, and prohibiting transfer of site.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin OPERATION OF STILLWATER BOOMSITE REST AREA.

new text begin The commissioner of transportation shall restore the grounds and facilities of the
Stillwater Boomsite rest area; provide public access; operate the site as a rest area; and
maintain and preserve grounds and facilities. The commissioner of transportation shall not
alter the appearance or structure of the buildings located on the boomsite as of January 1,
2007. Repairs to the buildings must be made after consultation with the commissioner
and the Washington County Historical Society to preserve the historic interpretation
of the site and buildings.

Sec. 2. new text begin TRANSFER OF STILLWATER BOOMSITE REST AREA
PROHIBITED.

new text begin The commissioner of transportation may not transfer ownership of the Stillwater
Boomsite rest area without approval of the legislature. Any state or federal agency or local
unit of government proposing to acquire the Stillwater Boomsite rest area must agree to
operate and maintain the site consistent with its history as interpreted by the Washington
County Historical Society. The site will be opened on April 1 and operated through
October 31 each and every year in perpetuity.
