A bill for an act
relating to local government; municipal liquor stores;
proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes,
chapter 340A; repealing Minnesota Statutes 2004,
sections 340A.601; 340A.602; 340A.603; 340A.604.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin No city may establish, own, or operate a municipal liquor
store.

new text begin EFFECTIVE DATE. new text end

new text begin This section is effective January 1, 2006.

Sec. 2. new text begin DIVESTITURE OF MUNICIPAL LIQUOR STORE.

new text begin A city that owns or operates a municipal liquor store must
sell, transfer, or otherwise divest itself of any interest in
the store by January 1, 2006. Proceeds of any sale must be
deposited in the city's general fund.

following final enactment.

Sec. 3. new text begin REPEALER.

new text begin Minnesota Statutes 2004, sections 340A.601; 340A.602;
340A.603; and 340A.604, are repealed effective January 1, 2006.
