  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to human services; licensed family day care; 
  1.3             modifying child age classification definitions; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 245A.02, by 
  1.5             adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 245A.02, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 19.  [FAMILY DAY CARE AND GROUP FAMILY DAY CARE CHILD 
  1.10  AGE CLASSIFICATIONS.] (a) For the purposes of family day care 
  1.11  and group family day care licensing under this chapter, the 
  1.12  following terms have the meanings given them in this subdivision.
  1.13     (b) "Newborn" means a child between birth and six weeks old.
  1.14     (c) "Infant" means a child who is at least six weeks old 
  1.15  but less than 12 months old. 
  1.16     (d) "Toddler" means a child who is at least 12 months old 
  1.17  but less than 24 months old, except that for purposes of 
  1.18  specialized infant and toddler family and group family day care, 
  1.19  "toddler" means a child who is at least 12 months old but less 
  1.20  than 30 months old. 
  1.21     (e) "Preschooler" means a child who is at least 24 months 
  1.22  old up to the age of being eligible to enter kindergarten within 
  1.23  the next four months. 
  1.24     (f) "School age" means a child who is at least of 
  1.25  sufficient age to have attended the first day of kindergarten, 
  2.1   or is eligible to enter kindergarten within the next four 
  2.2   months, but is younger than 11 years of age. 
  2.3      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.4      Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
