  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to drivers' licenses; requiring refund of fee 
  1.3             to applicant who does not receive driver's license, 
  1.4             duplicate driver's license, driver's permit, or 
  1.5             identification card within six weeks; amending 
  1.6             Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 171.06, by adding a 
  1.7             subdivision. 
  1.8   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.9      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 171.06, is 
  1.10  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.11     Subd. 6.  [REFUND OF FEE.] At the request of an applicant, 
  1.12  the department shall refund the fee paid by the applicant for a 
  1.13  driver's license, driver's instruction permit, duplicate 
  1.14  driver's license, or Minnesota identification card if the 
  1.15  applicant did not receive it within six weeks of having filed 
  1.16  the application for it.  A request for a refund may be made in 
  1.17  person, by a telephone call or facsimile transmission, by 
  1.18  electronic mail, or in writing.  The refund must include the 
  1.19  $3.50 county fee retained by a court administrator of a district 
  1.20  court for an application filed with the court administrator.  A 
  1.21  county is not required to relinquish a county fee for purposes 
  1.22  of the refund required under this subdivision. 
  1.23     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.24     Section 1 is effective July 1, 1995.
