A bill for an act
relating to transportation; bridges; limiting bridge engineering, design, and
construction costs in smaller cities; amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, section
174.50, subdivision 6b.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 174.50, subdivision 6b, is amended to read:

transportation fund to a home rule new text begin charter new text end or statutory city with a population of 5,000 or

and constructionnew text end of bridges on city streets. Grants under this subdivision are subject to
the procedures and criteria established under subdivisions 5 and 6, and may be used for
100 percent of the design and preliminary engineering costs. deleted text begin Total grants under this
subdivision to all cities may not exceed $200,000.

(b) No home rule charter or statutory city receiving a grant under paragraph (a) shall
be required to pay more than $10,000 for engineering services and $10,000 for construction
to repair or replace an existing bridge. If a bridge rehabilitation or replacement requires
more than $10,000 in engineering services or $10,000 in construction, the additional costs
shall be paid from the state transportation fund created in subdivision 2.
