  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to rural health care; appropriating money for 
  1.3             the St. Cloud Hospital-Mayo Family Practice Residency 
  1.4             Program. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION FOR THE ST. CLOUD HOSPITAL-MAYO 
  1.7   FAMILY PRACTICE RESIDENCY PROGRAM.] 
  1.8      $120,000 is appropriated from the general fund, for the 
  1.9   fiscal year ending June 30, 1997, to St. Cloud for the St. Cloud 
  1.10  Hospital-Mayo Family Practice Residency Program.  This 
  1.11  appropriation is conditioned upon $950,000 in matching funds 
  1.12  being made available from nonstate sources, for the same 
  1.13  purpose.  The program shall prepare doctors to practice primary 
  1.14  care medicine in the rural communities of central Minnesota and 
  1.15  other rural areas of the state.  It is intended that this 
  1.16  program will improve the health of rural communities, provide 
  1.17  affordable access to appropriate medical care, and manage the 
  1.18  treatment of patients in a more cost-effective manner.
