  1.1                             A resolution
  1.2             expressing support for our armed forces in the 
  1.3             conflict with Iraq; urging support for military 
  1.4             families in the United States, calling on the governor 
  1.5             to declare a day of prayer. 
  1.6      
  1.7      WHEREAS, the President of the United States has ordered 
  1.8   military action against Iraq; and 
  1.9      WHEREAS, more than 250,000 men and women of the United 
  1.10  States Armed Forces are now stationed in the Middle East; and 
  1.11     WHEREAS, members of the Minnesota National Guard have been 
  1.12  deployed in the Middle East from the following Companies:  
  1.13  Company B, 134th Forward Support Battalion from Minneapolis; 
  1.14  Company D, 434th Main Support Battalion from Duluth; Company C, 
  1.15  142nd Engineer Battalion from Camp Ripley; 798th Transportation 
  1.16  Detachment from Roseville; 133rd Airlift Wing, based at the 
  1.17  Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport; and the 148th 
  1.18  Fighter Wing from Duluth; and 
  1.19     WHEREAS, the citizens of Minnesota have great pride in the 
  1.20  men and women of the United States Armed Forces and support them 
  1.21  in their efforts; and 
  1.22     WHEREAS, the citizens of Minnesota deeply appreciate the 
  1.23  great personal sacrifices being made by our military personnel 
  1.24  in the Persian Gulf and by their families and loved ones back 
  1.25  home; NOW, THEREFORE, 
  2.1      BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the State of 
  2.2   Minnesota unequivocally supports the men and women of our Armed 
  2.3   Forces who are carrying out their missions with professional 
  2.4   excellence, dedicated patriotism, and exemplary bravery. 
  2.5      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature urges federal, 
  2.6   state, and local government agencies, religious institutions, 
  2.7   employers, schools, charitable organizations, and all our 
  2.8   citizens to do all that is humanly possible to assist the 
  2.9   families and loved ones of our Armed Forces members with all 
  2.10  necessary and available support. 
  2.11     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature requests the 
  2.12  Governor of the State of Minnesota to declare a day of prayer 
  2.13  for our armed forces personnel and to ask all religious 
  2.14  institutions to participate. 
  2.15     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State of the 
  2.16  State of Minnesota is directed to prepare copies of this 
  2.17  memorial and transmit them to the President of the United 
  2.18  States, the President and the Secretary of the United States 
  2.19  Senate, the Speaker and the Clerk of the United States House of 
  2.20  Representatives, and Minnesota's Senators and Representatives in 
  2.21  Congress.
