1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to education; modifying authority of the 1.3 Minnesota state high school league; amending Minnesota 1.4 Statutes 1996, section 128C.01, subdivisions 1 and 2; 1.5 repealing Minnesota Statutes 1996, sections 128C.01, 1.6 subdivision 3; and 128C.02, subdivisions 1 and 4. 1.7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.8 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 128C.01, 1.9 subdivision 1, is amended to read: 1.10 Subdivision 1. [VOLUNTARY ASSOCIATION.] The Minnesota 1.11 state high school league is a nonprofit corporation that is a 1.12 voluntary association of high schools. A high school that is a 1.13 school under section 120.101, subdivision 4, may be a member of 1.14 the league.The league is made up of high schools whose1.15governing boards have delegated their control of extracurricular1.16activities, as described in section 123.38, subdivision 2b, to1.17the league. The delegation is made when the governing board1.18files a certificate of delegation with the commissioner of1.19children, families, and learning.1.20 Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 128C.01, 1.21 subdivision 2, is amended to read: 1.22 Subd. 2. [POWER TO DELEGATE TO, PAY FOR, LEAGUE.]The1.23governing board of a high school may delegate its control of1.24extracurricular activities to the league.A school board may 1.25 spend money for, and pay dues to, the league. 1.26 Sec. 3. [REPEALER.] 2.1 Minnesota Statutes 1996, sections 128C.01, subdivision 3; 2.2 and 128C.02, subdivisions 1 and 4, are repealed. 2.3 Sec. 4. [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 2.4 Sections 1 to 3 are effective July 1, 1997.
