  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; providing for termination of 
  1.3             participation in the enrollment options program for 
  1.4             certain truant students; amending Minnesota Statutes 
  1.5             1998, section 124D.03, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 124D.03, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 12.  [TERMINATION OF ENROLLMENT.] A nonresident 
  1.10  district may terminate the enrollment of a nonresident student 
  1.11  enrolled under this section at the end of a school year if the 
  1.12  student meets the definition of a habitual truant under section 
  1.13  260.015, subdivision 19, the student has been provided 
  1.14  appropriate services under chapter 260A, and the student's case 
  1.15  has been referred to juvenile court.  A nonresident district may 
  1.16  also terminate the enrollment of a nonresident student over the 
  1.17  age of 16 enrolled under this section if the student is absent 
  1.18  without valid excuse for one or more periods on 15 school days 
  1.19  and has not lawfully withdrawn from school under section 
  1.20  120A.22, subdivision 8.
