relating to employment; regulating unpaid work for cash assistance; proposing
coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 181.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [181.0311] UNPAID WORK FOR CASH ASSISTANCE PROHIBITED.

new text begin Employment of any individual under an employment contract requiring the
individual to perform unpaid work in return for cash assistance under chapter 256J is
prohibited and does not count as work activity under section 256J.49, subdivision 13,
unless the employee voluntarily agrees, in writing, to engage in unpaid work in return for
cash assistance under section 256J.49, subdivision 13. The individual may terminate the
unpaid work arrangement, in writing, at any time.
