  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to data practices; clarifying the 
  1.3             classification of telephone records of certain public 
  1.4             officials; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 
  1.5             10.46. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 10.46, is 
  1.8   amended to read: 
  1.9      10.46 [TELEPHONE RECORDS PUBLIC.] 
  1.10     Long-distance All telephone bills paid for by the state or 
  1.11  a political subdivision, including those of representatives, 
  1.12  senators, judges, constitutional officers, heads of departments 
  1.13  and agencies, local officials, and employees thereof, are public 
  1.14  data.  This section supersedes any contrary provision in chapter 
  1.15  13.  
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.17     Section 1 is effective retroactive to May 25, 1993.
