A bill for an act
relating to transportation; appropriating money for regional transportation
planning.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION PLANNING.

new text begin $300,000 in fiscal year 2008 and $300,000 in fiscal year 2009 are appropriated from
the general fund to the commissioner of transportation. These appropriations are available
for grants of up to $25,000 per year for transportation studies outside the metropolitan
area to identify critical concerns, problems, and issues. These grants are available:

new text begin (1) to regional development commissions;
new text end

new text begin (2) in regions where no regional development commission is functioning, to joint
powers boards established under agreement of two or more political subdivisions in the
region to exercise the planning function of a regional development commission; and

new text begin (3) in regions where no regional development commission or joint powers board is
functioning, to the department's district office for that region.
