  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to drivers' licenses; providing for firearms 
  1.3             safety designation on driver's license; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 171.07, by adding a 
  1.5             subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 171.07, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 10.  [FIREARMS SAFETY DESIGNATION.] On presentation 
  1.10  by an applicant of a firearms safety certificate issued to an 
  1.11  applicant who has successfully completed a firearm safety course 
  1.12  administered under section 97B.015, and if the applicant so 
  1.13  requests and pays the required fees, the department shall issue, 
  1.14  renew, or reissue to the otherwise qualified applicant a 
  1.15  driver's license or Minnesota identification card bearing a 
  1.16  designation or symbolic representation, as designed by the 
  1.17  commissioner in consultation with the commissioner of natural 
  1.18  resources, indicating that the applicant has successfully 
  1.19  completed the course and is knowledgeable in firearm safety.
