  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to regulated occupations; requiring certain 
  1.3             mechanical contractors to give bond to the state; 
  1.4             authorizing a filing fee; proposing coding for new law 
  1.5             in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 326. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [326.992] [BOND REQUIREMENT; GAS, HEATING, 
  1.8   VENTILATION, AIR CONDITIONING, REFRIGERATION (G/HVACR) 
  1.9   CONTRACTORS.] 
  1.10     (a) A person contracting to do gas, heating, ventilation, 
  1.11  cooling, air conditioning, fuel burning, or refrigeration work 
  1.12  must give bond to the state in the amount of $25,000 for all 
  1.13  work entered into within the state.  The bond must be for the 
  1.14  benefit of persons suffering financial loss by reason of the 
  1.15  contractor's failure to comply with the requirements of the 
  1.16  State Mechanical Code.  A bond given to the state must be filed 
  1.17  with the commissioner of administration and is in lieu of all 
  1.18  other bonds to any political subdivision required for work 
  1.19  covered by this section.  The bond must be written by a 
  1.20  corporate surety licensed to do business in the state. 
  1.21     (b) The commissioner of administration may charge each 
  1.22  person giving bond under this section an annual bond filing fee 
  1.23  of $25.  The money must be deposited in the state government 
  1.24  special revenue fund and is appropriated to the commissioner to 
  1.25  cover the cost of administering the bond program.
