  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to elections; requiring eligible voters to 
  1.3             sign the polling place roster on election day; 
  1.4             imposing a fine; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 204C. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [204C.105] [APPEARANCE; SIGNATURE; ELECTION 
  1.8   DAY.] 
  1.9      An eligible voter who is not voting by absentee ballot must 
  1.10  appear at the polling place during the general election and sign 
  1.11  the polling place roster.  The voter need not vote after signing 
  1.12  the polling place roster.  The local election official shall 
  1.13  fine an eligible voter who does not comply with this section 
  1.14  $25.  A fine not paid within 30 days of written notice to the 
  1.15  eligible voter must be referred to the county attorney for 
  1.16  collection.
