  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to education; permitting independent school 
  1.3             district Nos. 24, Lake Park, and 21, Audubon, to begin 
  1.4             the 1997-1998 school year before Labor Day. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [EXEMPTION FROM SCHOOL START RESTRICTION.] 
  1.7      Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 126.12, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, for the 1997-1998 school year, independent school 
  1.9   district Nos. 24, Lake Park, and 21, Audubon, may begin the 
  1.10  elementary and secondary school year on August 25, 1997, in 
  1.11  order for independent school district No. 24, Lake Park, to 
  1.12  accommodate its building renovation schedule at the end of that 
  1.13  school year.
