  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to insurance; requiring coverage of 
  1.3             mastectomies on an inpatient basis; proposing coding 
  1.4             for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 62Q. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [62Q.53] [INPATIENT MASTECTOMY COVERAGE.] 
  1.7      Subdivision 1.  [APPLICATION.] This section applies to all 
  1.8   health plans as defined in section 62Q.01 and to the coverages 
  1.9   described in section 62A.011, subdivision 3, clauses (7) and 
  1.10  (10). 
  1.11     Subd. 2.  [REQUIREMENT.] No coverage described in 
  1.12  subdivision 1 shall be offered, sold, issued, or renewed unless 
  1.13  it covers: 
  1.14     (1) mastectomies performed on an inpatient hospital basis; 
  1.15  and 
  1.16     (2) at least 48 hours of inpatient hospital care after a 
  1.17  mastectomy. 
  1.18     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.19     Section 1 is effective August 1, 1997, and applies to 
  1.20  coverage issued or renewed on or after that date.
