  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to traffic regulations; allowing school 
  1.3             authorities to appoint nonpupil adults to school 
  1.4             safety patrols; amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, 
  1.5             section 126.15, subdivision 2. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 126.15, 
  1.8   subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 2.  [APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS.] Unless the parents or 
  1.10  guardian of a pupil object in writing to the school authorities 
  1.11  to the appointment of the pupil on a school safety patrol, it is 
  1.12  lawful for any pupil over nine years of age to be appointed and 
  1.13  designated as a member thereof, provided that in any school in 
  1.14  which there are no pupils who have attained such age any pupil 
  1.15  in the highest grade therein may be so appointed and 
  1.16  designated.  School authorities may also appoint and designate 
  1.17  nonpupil adults as members of a school safety patrol on a 
  1.18  voluntary or for-hire basis.
