  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to insurance; extending eligibility for 
  1.3             certain elective individual paid insurance and 
  1.4             benefits; amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 
  1.5             43A.27, subdivision 2. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 43A.27, 
  1.8   subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 2.  [ELECTIVE ELIGIBILITY.] The following persons, if 
  1.10  not otherwise covered by section 43A.24, may elect coverage for 
  1.11  themselves or their dependents at their own expense: 
  1.12     (a) a state employee, including persons on layoff from a 
  1.13  civil service position as provided in collective bargaining 
  1.14  agreements or a plan established pursuant to section 43A.18; 
  1.15     (b) an employee of the board of regents of the University 
  1.16  of Minnesota, including persons on layoff, as provided in 
  1.17  collective bargaining agreements or by the board of regents; 
  1.18     (c) an officer or employee of the state agricultural 
  1.19  society, state horticultural society, Sibley house association, 
  1.20  Minnesota humanities commission, Minnesota area or industry 
  1.21  labor management councils, Minnesota international center, 
  1.22  Minnesota academy of science, science museum of Minnesota, 
  1.23  Minnesota safety council, state office of disabled American 
  1.24  veterans, state office of the American Legion and its auxiliary, 
  1.25  state office of veterans of foreign wars and its auxiliary, or 
  2.1   state office of the Military Order of the Purple Heart; 
  2.2      (d) a civilian employee of the adjutant general who is paid 
  2.3   from federal funds and who is not eligible for benefits from any 
  2.4   federal civilian employee group life insurance or health 
  2.5   benefits program; and 
  2.6      (e) an officer or employee of the state capitol credit 
  2.7   union or the highway credit union.
