  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to highways; requiring documents relating to 
  1.3             contracts for trunk highways to express measurements 
  1.4             in English system of measurement only; prohibiting 
  1.5             commissioner of transportation from requiring any 
  1.6             measurement system other than the English system in 
  1.7             documents relating to contracts for county state-aid 
  1.8             highways and municipal state-aid streets; proposing 
  1.9             coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapters 
  1.10            161; and 162. 
  1.11  BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.12     Section 1.  [161.366] [TRUNK HIGHWAY CONTRACTS; 
  1.13  MEASUREMENTS.] 
  1.14     All plans, specifications, and other documents relating to 
  1.15  contracts for the construction, improvement, or repair of a 
  1.16  trunk highway, initiated on and after July 1, 1999, must express 
  1.17  measurements in the English system of measurement only. 
  1.18     Sec. 2.  [162.161] [STATE-AID CONTRACTS; MEASUREMENTS.] 
  1.19     The commissioner may not require plans, specifications, and 
  1.20  other documents relating to contracts for the construction, 
  1.21  improvement, or repair of a county state-aid highway or 
  1.22  municipal state-aid street to express measurements in any system 
  1.23  of measurement other than the English system. 
  1.24     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.25     Sections 1 and 2 are effective July 1, 1999.
